Talk on African Swine Fever

February 20, 2020 - The Club invited a speaker from PILMICO to address the concern of some members about the foreseen pork shortage  in the region due to AFRICAN SWINE FEVER ( ASF ). Mr. Arnel Calda, BS Animal Science graduate and animal production specialist talked about the AFRICAN SWINE FEVER (ASF ). He presented ASF statistics on the recorded cases of ASF in MINDANAO where majority of our pork supply comes from.  Members/spouses shared their thoughts on this national food security issue.

According to the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), ASF is a highly contagious viral disease that affects pigs, warthogs, and boars .  ASF is not considered though as a human health threat ( rappler article ).

This talk is made possible through the club treasurer, Rtn. Rocel Baclayon, who also sponsored the club's dinner.

Rotary Clubs invite speakers who can provide insight, information, entertainment or other relevant content in order to give members another reason to look forward to each meeting.( buildingtherotarybrand.blogspot.com)
